![]() EMBO Conference Series on Protein Synthesis and Translational Control"Translational Control" has become a major focus of attention and research activity in the field of gene regulation. Developmental biology and neurobiology are but two prominent examples that have added to the interest in translational control even before the arrival of small non-coding RNAs. MicroRNAs in particular now define a new frontier in gene expression, and will be a central topic to be discussed within the conference series. ![]() EMBO Conference Series on Morphogenesis and Dynamics of Multicellular SystemsThe problem of how cells become organized into three-dimensional tissues is one of the most important topics in biological research. Precisely coordinated changes in cellular behavior determine the shape and size of organs forming during embryogenesis. In adult organisms, dynamic changes in tissue organization underlie wound healing and regeneration, while a loss thereof is a hallmark of cancer. Therefore, studies addressing tissue dynamics in embryos or cultured multicellular systems will have a great impact on our understanding of medically important processes. ![]() EMBL Workshop on Translating Behaviour: Bridging Clinical and Animal Model ResearchThe workshop will try to cover a range of commonly studied behaviors relevant to human disease, including anxiety, impulsivity, and aggression, but also more controversial topics such as depression, schizophrenia, autism, and attachment. In this way, participants will be exposed to a wide range of clinically relevant behavioral research and gain an appreciation of its successes and pitfalls. Finally, our workshop aims to facilitate interactions between medical and basic science researchers by seeking the balanced participation of MD and PhD researchers.
